 Introducing the Paugan Falls Rapids

In the heart of the Gatineau Valley, where the air is crisp and the community's heartbeat syncs with the sound of a puck hitting the ice, the Paugan Falls Rapids have emerged as the embodiment of local hockey spirit. The Rapids are not just a team; they're a revival of a tradition, a tribute to the outdoor senior hockey legacy that once thrived in the Gatineau Valley.

The Legacy of Local Hockey

The Rapids' roots can be traced back to the cherished days of the CGSHL, an outdoor league where towns like Danford, Kazabazua, Venosta, Low, Brennan’s Hill, Farrellton, Rupert, Wakefield, and of course, Paugan Falls, battled for supremacy on the ice. This was a time when community pride swelled with each goal scored under the open sky. As the league transitioned indoors to the Gatineau Valley Arena in the mid '90s, it brought the fervor of the game under one roof before eventually dissolving.

A Community's Foundation: The Gatineau Valley Arena

Built in 1993 through the collective effort of over 300 volunteers, the Gatineau Valley Arena stands as a monument to the community's dedication to the sport. With volunteers still powering this hub of local hockey, the arena resonates with the echoes of thousands of hours of donated labor, meals shared, and bonds formed. The Paugan Falls Rapids are proud to skate on this historical ice, driven by the same volunteer spirit that birthed the arena.

A Future Hand-in-Hand with Tradition

The Rapids are more than a hockey team; they are stewards of the Gatineau Valley Arena, committed to ensuring its longevity as a community cornerstone. Their vision extends beyond the ice, promising to maintain the arena's vibrancy through volunteerism, sharing proceeds, and involving the community in every slap shot and cheer.

Unwavering Community Support

Support for the Rapids has been nothing short of remarkable. With over 200 season tickets sold and backing from more than 35 local businesses, the Rapids' integration into the community is palpable. Whether it's participating in the Canada Day Parade or lending hands for arena renovations, the Rapids and the community are a united force.

Embracing Hockey Culture

On the ice, the Rapids' roster is a reflection of the Gatineau Valley itself—homegrown talent that pays homage to the region's hockey heritage. While the team may be in its inaugural season, they have already made waves, celebrating a thrilling first home game victory in overtime before a packed crowd of 518 fans.

Community Engagement: Beyond the Ice

The Rapids' players are as much a part of the Gatineau Valley community off the ice as they are on it. From volunteering with youth skating programs to coaching high school hockey, the Rapids are cultivating a future for the sport within the local youth, ensuring that the passion for hockey continues for generations.

Looking Ahead

With a mission to unite the community through hockey, the Rapids are dedicated to enhancing the Gatineau Valley Arena, supporting community programs, and striving for excellence within the EOSHL. They are not just playing for the present; they are building for a future where the Rapids and the Gatineau Valley community continue to thrive together.
